Thanks to Robert for catching the FDA reference. The following all claim
to have validated compliance with FDA regulations: MasterControl,
Alfresco, ValGenesis, QUMAS, Pilgrim, and DocuShare. This includes the
dreaded, disputed Part 11 requirements for electronic records and
signatures.

I've heard that Documentum is best for the biggest document databases
(and the biggest budgets), but I never asked them for a quote.

I think ECM has supplanted EDM as the standard term for that stuff.

EMC / Documentum, ECM Livelink / OpenText, IBM Filenet, on the open
source side Alfresco, Nuexo, and of course Microsoft will tell you
SharePoint can do it and maybe it can.

You might look for a consultant / vendor with specific experience
supporting FDA compliance.
