Replying from home, not work:

Thanks to all on and off list who replied. I've tried the .odt option and submitted a manuscript to the publisher to advise how exactly, and in which file, and how coded, for the metadata. Hopefully, the .odt format will be acceptable with minor modifications.

Thanks again!

Deborah

Hi All,

We have been asked to submit our journal articles to a subscription service. They have provided a bunch of instructions, most of which I understood. However, I have no idea HOW to do the following. I am working in Word 2007. Any suggestions as to how to provide tagged ASCII text would be greatly appreciated. Here are the instructions. Thanks!
Deborah

1. ASCII Data (Preferred forms: XML, SGML or Tagged Text)

a. Metadata: The metadata would provide us with any available information you have about the issue or article contents. Some examples of common metadata fields are:

i. Issue publication/cover date

ii. Volume/Issue numbering information

iii. Journal title identification information (ISSN, Journal name, etc)

iv. Author info

v. Page numbering information

vi. Keywords

vii. Abstracts

viii. DOI

b. ASCII Full text: In addition to the metadata described above, we would also like to receive the full article text, tagged within the ASCII data.

i. Article body full text can be described as the actual complete text of the article (as opposed to an abstract of the article.)

ii. Ideally the full text would include markup tagging allowing us to properly represent the full text (Bold, italics, paragraph tags, etc.)

iii. Document Type Definitions or DTDs: We are not as concerned with which DTD that will be used as much as that the ASCII data format consistent. Here are a few common DTDs:

1. Prism: http://www.prismstandard.org/specifications/prism1.asp

2. Onix: http://xml.coverpages.org/onix.html

3. NLM: http://dtd.nlm.nih.gov/publishing/

4. NITF: http://xml.coverpages.org/nitf.html
