I got a call from someone who did not actually see a recent résumé and got my information from an old Dice posting. She said, "I think you are perfect fit for this job! How close are you to <some town I do not remember>?" First, I looked up the town and found that it was 8 hours away, weather and traffic permitting. So, quite a commute. Then, just to learn why this job that she raved about nearly endlessly was so perfect for me, I ask about the job. It required technologies that I had *no* experience with. I think the only thing that seemed like a "good fit," was that the job had some web and database requirements, but it was Windows and my web experience is primarily Linux. I had to explain Drupal to her.

Given that those folks, the ones in the placement agencies anyway, seem to to be skilled at:
1. Telling me they have read my resume and found it impressive;
2. Telling me I'm a shoo-in for a DBA job in Irkutsk (presumably because I once wrote about DB2);
3. Not having any tech writing jobs available at all; ...

Given all that, I would prefer to have a job title that is as far removed from theirs as possible. How about "tech writer"??
