Your build time for the PDF is quite slow. I agree with Gene that your best approach would be to increase the memory in the computer. I'm using a similar setup but with a slower processor and more memory. I get much better performance from Acrobat. Having said that, there are a couple of other things you can do to speed up the system:

Use the Windows System Configuration Utility (Start>>Run>>msconfig) and look at each entry on the Startup tab. Many software packages install executables that run automatically when you start your system but that aren't really necessary. Having a bunch of programs run automatically when you start your system can put a big burden on your system and hamper performance. Google the file name for each entry in the list and you should find advice as to whether you actually need to have that program start automatically when you start your system.

Review Acrobat's conversion settings for images... if the conversion settings specify compression for all your images, it's going to take much longer to build your PDF.

One thing I've noted is that if you use Microsoft Security Essentials anti-malware software, it puts a massive drag on your system when you first start it up. It seems to assert control over the vast majority of the processor power until it's gone through it's initialization and update processes. Once it's done with that, everything's fine.
