Ahh. But there's the thing. It was because you had that
leisure to find out that you got going with no problem.
The original scenario was that the couple or three days
(plus invoice costs) for some tool training were too high a
price in direct dollars and in temporarily abated productivity
such that hiring a high-priced hero for instant results was
thereby justified.

Certainly, you got there faster due to your experience.

a) young folks starting in techy businesses are already
pre-disposed to look to the web and forums and social
media for assistance and illumination (and Flare points
you to their forums at every opportunity anyway...)

b) a person starting a new job usually loses a day or
two to bureaucratic (HR) stuff and logistics (getting
the phone-line switched, getting the network drop working
at your cube, "Hey, there's a monitor but no PC!", "Hey,
my PC doesn't have monitor/memory/name it !").

"We're in a bit of a rush today, meetings all day,
but first thing in the morning, I'll take you around
and introduce you to the SMEs for your products.
Except the ones who are away on an urgent customer
visit... and the ones that are on vacation - can't
understand why they waited until summer vacation
time to hire you..."
