In my current company, on the "quick start" foldout card that is the first thing
the customer sees when opening the box. At the top of the card is a row of
images showing each item, including the foldout card itself. The foldout card
can be downloaded presale as a PDF, so the information available prior to
delivery for any customer who wants it in advance.

Some of the systems I've worked on at past companies have been sufficiently
complex to warrant having an entire volume of a multi-volume user manual set
devoted to product shipping BOMs.
