The Radford job codes are the most accurate descriptors of job levels in technical occupations, including technical writers. If your company is a subscriber, your HR dept should be able to obtain the descriptions for you. Whether they will or not is another matter.

Once more, with content.

Hi, all.

We got into this topic a little while ago when I asked for your thoughts about the difference between a principal writer and a senior writer.

I understand from your answers that job levels and titles vary widely between companies and there is no hard-and-fast rule or set of job standards.

HOWEVER, I need some reasonable resource to refer to that goes over this ground and makes the basic distinctions. An STC publication? A Bureau of Labor publication?

If you know of any resource that establishes what you consider to be reasonable levels of tech writer job proficiency, I would love to know about it. I need to refer to more than my own opinions when I discuss this topic in a few days.

Thanks for any and all help.
