Risking a plunge into the realm of the off-topic...

It took some work to retrieve any details associated with my vague memory on this one. But the comic strip that originated the "Urge to Kill" bubble was called "They'll Do It Every Time" and was penned by a San Francisco sports cartoonist named Jimmy Hatlo. Someone (and there is disagreement whether it was Hatlo, his sports editor, or the managing editor at his newspaper) got the bright idea of inviting readers to mail in their pet peeves for Hatlo to turn ito a comic strip (always with "a tip of the Hatlo hat to..." credit). The idea and the strip were so successful that one of the rival cartoon syndicators spawned a near-exact lookalike called "There Ought to Be A Law".

Along the way to this knowledge I discovered a recent strip which has at least a vague tech writing tie-in: http://www.gocomics.com/features/search?search_string=urge%20to%20kill

Thanks for the Hatlo memory, Kevin.
