In the large machine manufacturing industry, CE regulations are very
strict. We generally contract with a company like TUV to have our machines
reviewed at the manufacturing site, before they go to Europe.
Documentation is one of the things that they review. This costs a bit, but
when meeting the directives is necessary, it's not a choice.
The TUV agent will tell you which directives your product must meet. He
may also supply you with the directives as a courtesy, but you can buy
them online if not.
There are other companies that do this state side too.
To meet the regulations, we are self certifying, keeping a file of all
pertinent documents and information. Including things like engineering
calculations and risk assessments. It's a big job meeting CE. We take it
seriously here, and I'm a small part.
