Well. OK, then.

Most of the people in my world have email. Some of the people in my
world have Twitter accounts. Some have phones that they can use for
both email and Twitter, others have phones that only make phone calls.

If people want to know what I'm saying on Twitter, go to
http://twitter.com/charjtf. You don't need to sign up, you don't need
to follow me...that's my public timeline. However, my twitstream is
very much like me, which means it won't be for everyone. OTOH, if you
want to know more about me (the person), my twitstream is fairly
representative.

(And even though I use Twitter, I haven't dropped any of my email
accounts or unsubscribed from any of my email lists. Each serves a
purpose.)

In addition to the  personal affront of the software/hardware/other not working the way I expect/need it to do, it's an added indignity to have to start filling out forms and giving personal info, or creating yet-another bogus G-Mail account so I can log into somebody's cutesy support infrastructure.

No one will make you jump through any hoops. A lot of companies now
have Twitter accounts (see http://www.socialbrandindex.com for a
partial list, organized by category), and they're not using it in
place of other support options, they're using it in addition to them.
