Interesting, Jay just sent a blank message through, but he's using 
Thunderbird 2 on a PC.  At least with Thunderbird, I can help ...

Go into Preferences, select the Composition tab, the General sub-tab. 
At the bottom right, click the Send Options... button.  Ensure that 
"Send the message in both plain text and HTML" is selected as the Text 
Format.  Click the Plain Text Domains sub-tab then click the Add... 
button.  Enter "lists.techwr-l.com" then click OK.

Now, your outgoing mail will have both the HTML and plain text parts, 
and any mail you send to the TECHWR-L list will only be sent as plain 
text, which the list manager software will be very pleased with.
