At the point that you were rebuked, had you been involved in reviews of the UI (like before it was sent to your coders)?

Actually, I once got rebuked for writing an explanation of how to make sense of a poorly designed interface, rather than submitting a formal change request to the developers to change the interface. I guess it was an ego thing. I wanted the end users to need my explanation.
