TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
The history of Nvu/KompoZer is somewhat convoluted. It is summarized briefly
on the Nvu download page thusly (with more history on the About Us page ( http://net2.com/nvu/about.html):
NVU 1.0, released in June 2005, is the last official release that you will
find at most download sites, however, it isn't the newest or best version of
the Nvu software. An unofficial bugfix/update called "KompoZer" is available
here <http://kompozer.net/download.php>. KompoZer fixes some of the major
bugs and annoyances found in Nvu 1.0. If you are using NVU 1.0 and it works
for you, stick with it. But if you run into problems, give KompoZer a try
and see if it helps.
To add to the confusion, KompoZer uses the Nvu desktop icon. This makes some
sense, if you view yourself as a bugfix edition of Nvu.
Meanwhile, the Nvu FAQ page indicates that Nvu has now been revived by its
original developer, but nothing's been released yet. It's not clear when
that FAQ was written.
