But if two or three contact you in a short period of time, how do you
know which one actually submitted you first to the potential employer?



Or did you mean the first one who contacts you?



The first recruiter might hang up from talking to you and immediately
get a call-back from a person they think more qualified or "better fit".
So they present that other person to the hiring company and get back to
you later that day, or next day, to let you know. Meanwhile, you've
told three others "thank you, but I'm taken", and they might be the ones
who believe in you (or haven't heard from the golden candidate... :-) )
