Hello. I was a member of this list long ago and recently rejoined. I am
currently working full time for a company that I've been with for about 10
years. However, I have prepared my resume as a proactive measure in case of
layoffs. Now it's time to update my portfolio and writing samples. It has
been a long time since I've interviewed. Previously when asked for writing
samples, I would bring them to the interview and show them in person only as
my work contains proprietary information. Do people still do this? I have
considered modifying some of my documents but they would lose a lot of value
if I made them generic. And, I've considered creating my own samples but a)
clearly that is a time intensive process and b) I don't think documenting
simple software will showcase my abilities. FWIW I document software
technology with IT administrators as the target audience. How do you handle
this and what is the norm these days? Thank you.

Nicole.
