TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
I have avoided use of the word "box" ever since I had to fight with the "technical writer" about my editorial correction to his sentence "Lay the box on it's side."
Of course there should be an apostrophe, he argued. It's possessive, isn't it?
We didn't even get into "lay" versus "lie" or even "set".
I still encounter that same argument sometimes. At least it's now from SMEs instead of the tech writer (who is now me and knows better).
That one discussion left me with a permanent neurotic dislike of the entire sentence and every word in it I guess that's now my problem. Sigh.
