If he actually has provided you with new or better technical info, sing 
his praises (gently) in public. Include his name in your status memo to 
your boss, telling how helpful he was.

What he has done is far, far better than the SME who sits on the review 
for days, says nothing, and then explodes after you have released 
"erroneous" final material that only he could have corrected. You have a 
winner there. Do not punish him!
