The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
It's been around for a long time, but it has a specific meaning.
In order fulfillment (think Barnes and Nobel when you place an order
for 5 books), an order comes in to the warehouse for a list of items
to fill the order.
That list is a picklist. Someone goes through the warehouse and picks
various items off the shelf to fill the order.. It might be automated,
but the concept is similar.
Any other context is not quite right, but in the right context, it is
the only appropriate term.
