I'd definitely suggest a "try before you go full-on" with Word 2007.

I'm not as angry over the Office 2007 Suite as I once was. For programs
I don't use often, like PowerPoint, the new interface is actually a
little easier. My husband has gone on about all the great things that
are easy to do in the new version of Excel. My mother loves Word 2007.
I still dislike Word 2007 very strongly.

I still find that I have to spent several minutes hunting down some
functions (and another few befuddled seconds wondering why they'd group
it the way they did). My own productivity is much slower in 2007 than
earlier versions. Luckily, I have a virtual machine that has 2003
loaded on it, and it can be faster to start the virtual machine and
re-open the file through Word 2003 than figure out how to do it in 2007
sometimes. One problem is that it was handled pretty much like any
other software upgrade around here, and there hasn't been any downtime
to even self-train on 2007, other than when I have to figure out how the
heck to do something for a hot project.

Office 2007 is a new software tool, very different from the previous
versions. Even if you've been using Word, well, since there was Word,
it may take some time to learn the new version. Something to keep in
mind.
