I'm not sure how this notion would fit into instructions for using
software or hardware, etc, but one thing that I've often found handy
when receiving travel directions - and that I also try to include when
_giving_ travel directions - is something on the order of:

"... and if you pass a big red barn on the north side of the road,
you've gone too far."

Perhaps it might be useful in web-browsing directions. Or, maybe the
analogy of navigation is already a bit too strained for that.

Are there any situations, other than physical navigation of physical
territory, where it can be beneficial to have a way of knowing you've
gone too far in a direction or down a path?
