Without rewriting or other modification, if I were to choose between your two sentences, I'd choose the repetition.

I see nothing wrong with repetition if it serves to clarify.

In your sentence, I'd repeat if only because, where there's a fairly long stretch between the two components of the sentence, the repetition makes it easier for the reader to grasp the sense..
