It's not just a good idea; it's the law

Is anyone aware of a provision in French (France) law that says a
product with a software component, sold into the French market must have
a printable manual?

 

All you folks who provide Help as the documentation for your software
products, do you have to kick out a PDF (or whatever) version when it
comes time to have it translated for France?

Would the people enforcing such a thing then allow a product to be sold
in-country with English-only Help, as long as there was a translated
printout in French?

We're talking WebHelp, not integrated context-sensitive Help.

 

I just heard this line of guff from somebody who's demanding a print
version of something that was released in 2006 and isn't really in my
roadmap schedule...

There's probably more to the story.
