As somebody has already said, the application/CV/whatever is all about
getting your foot in the door - to the interview stage. Once there I'd
say it's more down to Milan's 'being yourself' - the best way to ensure
that the company is a fit for you.
To get to that stage I tend to agree with Gene. I find out as much as I
can about the company/job before applying and tailor my application to
highlight how my skills/experience match their requirements. So I look
at their requirements:
Have I the skills they want? If not, are they easy to obtain (new
software etc)? If the answers are No-No then it may not be for me. If
Yes-No the onwards showing how I learned new software in other jobs etc.
Have I the experience? Again not always straightforward - a balancing
act!
If I'm OK then my covering letter highlights how I match their needs -
hopefully get them to look at the CV.
The CV is structured so that it best highlights how I meet their needs.
I sometimes even provide 2 CV - a one page summary and a detailed 3-4
pager to go with it. As is often the case in TWing, it depends!
