Alfred, funny you should ask. I was just reviewing The Editorium site a
few minutes ago and skimming the freebies page, http://www.editorium.com/freebies.htm. The first item is an Author Tools
Template. The template comes with an explanatory document that tells how
it's set up so that authors work purely from styles and do not apply
manual formatting. It's not 100 percent foolproof -- it gives everything
necessary for authors and a common-sense rationale for not formatting
manually, but I don't believe the template is so locked down that manual
changes are impossible. One clever thing that it does do, though, is
remove the normal elements with which people love to tinker from Word's
formatting menu while using the template. A total lockdown, if even
achievable, could be more of a subject for the Word Doc Design gang on
Yahoo groups. Assuming you yourself are comfortable with styles, of
course, I'm reasonably confident the Author Tools Template could be
modified to whatever formatting requirements you have in house.

Hi group,
This is probably a naive question, but can anyone recommend a book or
other source that thoroughly explains the subject of styles in Word and
how to create a set of styles for a document that will _really_
eliminate the need for use of manual style changes?
TIA,
Alfred Wild
