Hi Peter,

I have just read the thread, and have a this comment:
There used to be a reference to infomapping on the OASIS website (I don't
know if it's still there), it definitely was a source of inspiration to
the DITA guys. That being said, I recommend reading up on both structured
writing/infomapping and DITA, and combine them into sth that works for
you(r customers).

Please forget about the horizontal rules/tables/labels/etc discussion
about infomapping, layout is besides the point here.

Wouter

Single-sourcing through document re-use in its lesser forms used to
present the text of the printed manual's pages as help screens, or
perhaps vice-versa. It was justified as being easier to maintain than
constructing a user-targeted help system.

Allow me to quote myself from yesterday:

"The key is to focus on the user view and not on the technology. ... Any
time that implementation is put ahead of design, or design ahead of
requirements, the wrong minds are in control."

Does single-sourcing help meet the customer's needs? Perhaps it makes
revised documents available faster. Or perhaps it inserts non-sequiturs
into formerly comprehensible text. Perhaps it does both.
