Do you mean in any specific piece of software, or just in general?
And by "version" do you mean like version 1 being updated to create
version 2, which I've also heard called revision control?
Or do you mean different versions of the same single-source being
created for different private labels, which I've also heard called
editioning?

This is not an urgent question, but I will need to know the answer, or
at least where to start looking.
