TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
Does the document, by chance, have a blank header and footer set for the
first page (like a title page)? Sometimes this works, if that is true:
1. Select File --> Page Setup.
2. Click the Layout tab on the Page Setup window.
3. Clear the Different first page checkbox.
4. If the Different odd and even checkbox is selected, clear that one
also.
This will sometimes reset the headers and footers to be blank because it
deletes all the text and resets to the page with the blank header and
footer.
Let me know if that works.
If it does not, you can try a few other things:
- Save the doc as .rtf and try it again.
- Insert the document into a new blank Word doc.
- OR open it in Wordpad and save as a new document. (Start -->
Programs --> Accessories --> Wordpad). Wordpad deletes the headers and
footers and all the page breaks, but most of the other formatting should be
there. (Bullets might come across with numbers and bullets, but even in my
very complicated Infomapping doc, the formatting looks very good.
HTH!
Good luck!
