I have never had the experience of customers/user not knowing what
they wanted or needed from a product or its documentation. I *have*
had the experience of trying to document a product and discovering
that its developers had never taken the time to find out what their
intended customers/users wanted and needed. This does not surprise
me at all, because if I put on my user/customer hat I cannot think of
a single instance when I bought something without knowing what I
wanted from it, and *can* think of numerous instances when it
became apparent to me that whoever had made the #$%^& thing
hadn't made much of an effort to find out.
