Admittedly, I learn a lot from human interest threads like this one. But
after all the responses that explore gut reactions, tips from Psych 101,
and other best?? practices for dealing with a perceived "difficult
person", I can only aim suggestions at the more tangible, less emotional
issue of version control:
* Get permission to install freeware version management software (eg
TortoiseCVS). Even without version control, Word and FrameMaker both
have file locking mechanisms. See the product docs for details.
* If the OP works in a Windows environment, email team-wide the
following tip for viewing the last person who saved a file (the owner):
a. In WinExplorer, select Details as your view mode.
b. Right-click any Detail title bar to open a list of details as a
popup.
c. Select the Owner detail to add it to the view.
d. Repeat step b to reopen the detail popup list.
e. Select the Date Modified detail to add it to the view.
It's easier on the coronaries to acknowledge an environmental issue
(even an imaginary one) than to try to control|modify the behaviour of
others.
