Dear Listmates,
I do all my own writing in straight ASCII text, then import into a
desktop publisher for formatting, so I have little experience with
"word processors." Unfortunately, I have lately been forced to put
extra emphasis on my other income stream, namely translations (German
and French to English, English to French), and in that field nearly
everything that comes in is in Word format, translation to be
delivered in the same format. Right now I have a large (by my
standards) job sitting on my hard drive that would really benefit
from being able to make simultaneous edits to an entire folder full
of Word files - repetitive table entries and headings, repeating
vocabulary, even entire phrases. Ages ago I used an MS-DOS utility
that made changes to an entire directory's worth of text files, but I
have no idea where to find that and doubt that it would be useful in
dealing with M$'s proprietary formats.
As soon as I finish this message I will go to Tucows and other
software banks in my Bookmarks, but I am hoping to save some search
time by tapping the experience of other listmembers. What do you recommend?
