The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
I love this thread! I remember my first word processor was actually more of an electric typewriter that had a small pop up screen which held maybe ten lines, which I could correct before it went on paper...also it had the ability to save my stuff on a disk! WOOHOO...That was such a thrill!! This was in the late 80's and I was married to a construction worker and trying to go to school through correspondence courses, pre-online stuff!! Before that blessed piece of equipment I was writing everything out by hand and then typing it on a manual typewriter with a ribbon that insisted on breaking or at least jamming up every 50 words! :)
I have my masters in the History of Technology and love conversations on how technology has changed. My grandmother died two years ago at the ripe old age of 102. She was sharp as a tack to the very end and it was so much fun to listen to her talk about the changes in her lifetime. To her nothing ever measured up to the fact that she grew up with Philo T. Farnsworth...of the picture tube fame! She was very thrilled when I ended up going to Philo T. Farnsworth Elementary!
Gotta love technology!!!
