Dori, Craig, et al.
Please do not get too complacent. Few jobs are lost these days because of
poor performance in the jobs.
Many positions are eliminated because the positions themselves are perceived
as not contributing enough to the organization.
Staying isolated in a writer's cubicle can contribute to lessening the
perceived value of the work you are doing, no matter how good your performance
reviews are.
Now, if your performance reviews are based on goals that are connected
_directly_ to the bottom-line goals of your organization (as they should be), then
you are in a better position than many employees whose performance is judged
against different standards.
Jim Shaeffer
PS
The phrase "contributing enough" is a slippery variable and highly dependent
on time and context.

Oh yeah, and took flak here at work for "goofing off" because I'm working at
my computer, not walking around on the plant floor enough (in somebody's
perception).
Rant, grump, so there.

Hi Dori,
I too work on one thing at a time. I too don't walk around our building very
much. I can sit right in my cube all day in front of my computer and do
everything I need to do.

My manager's manager, the guy who hired me, stopped by to chat last Friday.
He's happy with my progress thus far. Therefore, I'm ecstatic.
