I read on SitePro News some time ago that Google changed their search
algorithm. It used to be that links to a website was one of the most
important criteria for search result placement, but the new algorithm places
links lower on the priority list. Instead, it rates usefulness of content (a
new rating category) in addition to keywords, freshness of page (website),
and finally links.
Since I don't walk on water and I'm well over 50, my memory could be playing
tricks I got Google mixed up with another search engine, but it would make
sense to use a rating other than links.
The rise of blogs, MySpace, YouTube, etc., has changed the Internet
landscape. Ironically, organic SEO may be coming back into vogue as a
result. That's good news for those of us who cannot afford the pay-per-click
model.
