We have MOSS 2007 here. I don't think it compares versions like you are
thinking (as Word would do) but I'm not 100% certain. I know MOSS does
major and minor versioning and if you set a process where people detail
the changes in the version comments, it might be easier to compare
versions.
Just my thoughts off the top of my head. (I'm the intranet PM here where
I work.)

I am looking into SharePoint as an alternative. Does anyone know if
SharePoint allows comparison between different versions of office
documents (most importantly word docs). I know it tracks versions but I
