If you missed the December 2006 issue of intercom, here are some good free or open-source tools for
technical writers (Merry Christmas!):
Dia (www.gnome.org/projects/dia/) - claims to be similar to Visio.
GIMP (www.gimp.org) - claims to be similar to Adobe Photoshop.
Nivu (www.nvu.com/index.php) - claims to rival FrontPage and Dreamweaver.
There are many others listed in the periodical, however these are the three I am testing.
My favorite OS writing project is Scribus, now avail for Windows!
