That is very unusual in the US. I have never done that, actually, as the
employer should be the one to pay. Have a lawyer look at the agreement for
you if you really want the job. I doubt seriously they would advise you to
sign that without significant changes.

Jobs are not in that short supply right now. And, Richard, you have great
skills. I don't think you have to pay to get a job!
