Did he use bad language or act really crude or something? Or was it
just that he was taking a call from a g.f. while on company premises?

I'm curious :)

Very true. At my former company, we interviewed a candidate who seemed to
fit the job description very well. When the HR manager informed my manager
and I that he was on his cell phone in the company lobby, arguing with his
girl friend, he was crossed off the list of potential candidates and his
resume discarded.

I am now permanently employed after 2 years of contracts, but I always have
and will be polite to the receptionist, maintenance folks, cleaning crew
etc.
