Re: Interviewing Strategies
My last three interviews have been for permanent, full time positions. I'veIt's not only recruiters that are concerned. I've had a number of HR interviewers mention their concern over my contract background..."are you ready to give up your devil may care lifestyle and settle into a cubicle for extended periods of time?" I found it ironic that they weren't concerned that living in Alaska for 20 years and actually found that it piqued their interest, but working contracts for Tivoli Systems and IBM was a liability...go figure. (Some of my work in Alaska, BTW, included working with the computer center's Cray IIIs and NCR super computers, but they didn't ask about that. They wanted to know about the scenery, fishing, hunting...all the "Last Frontier" stuff and if it's day for six months and night for six months (it isn't). It was also interesting to note that virtually nobody other than HR cared less about my ability to move from contractor to permanent hire. They were interested in my ability to do the job.
been a contractor for 10 years.
When recruiters contact me, they spend most of the conversation reminding me
that the position in question is a full time position, and the rest of the
conversation verifying that I want a full time position.
