Perhaps six or seven years ago, ABC's "20/20" magazine program did a
segment on how stupid things done in college and at college-age can and
often do come back to haunt.

One segment of the show dealt with three young ladies in their
mid-to-late 20's at the time of the broadcast. The three were located by
the network and agreed to participate in being shown a segment taped six
or so years earlier when the three spent the week during spring break in
Jacksonville, Florida, the very skimpy attire they wore, their behavior
and shall-we-say "flaunting of their wares". All three were positively
and truly humiliated and embarrassed.

But the most telling situation was of another young woman who was part
of the "Girls Gone Wild" series of tapes from some years earlier. (If
you don't already know what's on these tapes, ask around, 'cause I'm
certainly not gonna tell.) Ten years or so later, she's married, has
young children, was running for office on the local school board and
guess what somebody found out? Yep, that's her in that tape. She was
devastated, hurt and I think tried to sue, but a signed release was
brought out and I don't remember where it went from there.

Youthful indiscretions - whether it be spring break antics or misleading
or suggestive e-mail addresses or other online presence - can and often
WILL do you in.

(Never been to spring break. Really!)

No-no-no-no-noooo! By all means, DO flaunt your craziness. Hiring
managers need to pre-screen on something, so anything that helps
minimize the number of crazies in the cube farm is a blessing to all of
us who don't want to be sitting next to the person with the voices
saying "killkillkillkill..."
