The company in question is privately owned. They can do just about anything

they want.

As a matter of fact, the hiring manager could even ask the applicant if
she thought that starting a family would interfere with the completion of
the tasks involved with the position.

-------------------

No no no!

In Texas, which has an equal rights amendment to the state constitution, you
absolutely *cannot* ask an applicant about whether or not they are planning
a family, the type of birth control they use, or if they are expecting a
child--either a male or female applicant. This was true in the 70's! I also
believe that this is a basis for a federal EEOC complaint that would be
investigated.

When my son's first child was born, he was threatened with losing his job
when he stated that he must take some parental leave time, due to his wife's
surgery and inability to care for the baby by herself. He took the leave
anyway, and got fired.

A lot of folks look the other way when discrimination happens, until it
lands on them. That's a different story.

Who said that all evil needs to triumph is for a good (wo)man to do nothing?
