   Rather than cry about a lack of respect, I carry the attitude that I don't
   give a damn if the SMEs respect me or not.  We both have jobs to do and mine
   is to produce the best documentation I can with the information that is
   provided or uncovered by sleuthing.   However, I also have a heavy hardware
   and software background and I am always joking around, which makes it easier
   to overcome pettiness.  Being able to switch from being slightly arrogant to
   slightly humble also helps.  It keeps them guessing.
