TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
On a test site, I recently noticed that some text I assumed to be
conditionalized OUT of the output was displaying. I thought that maybe I
had forgotten to remove the conditional from the single-source layout
conditional build expression, but when I went to check, I saw that where
an elaborate build expression used to be, it now said, "None."
After I regained consciousness, I started to wonder how this could have
happened. Due to a corrupted CPD file, I did have to regenerate the
project from the HHP file. At that time, I did copy the rhlayout,
rhskins, and rebuildtag APJ files from the original project but after
talking to the RH technical support, it sounds like when you do that,
you might lose the conditional build expression (which resides in the
SSL file for the layout). So, that would seem to explain it, right?
NOT
Because I have 6 robohelp projects for this particular product, all in
different languages, and I only had to recreate 2 of them due to
corruption. But, the conditional build expressions are missing from 5 of
the 6 projects. No one else on my team had to recreate any of them. Does
anyone one this list have any idea what else could be causing this? Is
it possible that when copying an entire RH project from one folder to
another that those files could be effected? I know I'm grasping at
straws.
Also, if anyone out there has a detailed descriptions of each of the
file types in a RH project and what triggers the update of each type, I
would love a copy.
