Try looking for start-ups. My current position includes technical and
marketing writing, with some artwork and graphics thrown in just for
fun.

Subject: Does this job exist?
I was recently laid off from a job that gave me a lot of variety. I did
just about any type of writing that could be remotely put under the
banner of technical writing (and some that couldn't), the main exception
being intensive software/help documentation. I believe that my
versatility is one of my strongest abilities and I love the variety.
So, these are my questions:
How common is it to find full-time permanent jobs (need those health
benefits) that value versatility over specialization?
Are there certain types of businesses that need versatility and provide
variety and that regularly hire full-time tech writers? What are they?
Any recommendations on where to look and how to market myself would be
greatly appreciated. I've already sent resumes to most of the contract
houses in my area and I'm monitoring a few job boards including the
local STC site. I'm in the Twin Cities area if anyone has more specific
knowledge.
Thanks,
Karen Murri
