Make sure you grab a copy of Conrad Taylor's excellent article 'Line thickness, a means of expression' <http://www.ideography.co.uk/library/infodesign/eigvil/presentations/Linethicknesses.pdf> or <http://www.ics.ltsn.ac.uk/eigvil/presentations/Linethicknesses.pdf>

You may also want to have a look at 'But I can't draw!' <http://www.ideography.co.uk/drawing/download.html>
