TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
Just as an FYI to you and all on the list. John Nelson is a wealth of info. I am one of his students, I can can promise that he and David Toomey (another full time program instructor) are amazingly supportive, creative, and exacting task masters!
Take a look at http://www.umass.edu/pwtc/ for more info. The program has graduated a significant number of students of non traditional age. Note that one's major is not an issue. While most are English majors, some major in business, some in computer science or some specialty in engineering, some in communications, some in other disciplines.
To John - it is late. Don't you DARE send me corrections on my punctuation, grammar or spelling in this email!! >grin<
BTW - I home-schooled my son. He will be 20 in a few weeks, and is engaged to a lovely girl who was also home-schooled (they met in a local home-school club when they were barely teens :-) Both he and his GF are honors college students. He in landscape architecture, she in communications.
I will be interested to see other replies to your post.
