There are some people with a high sensitivity (and allergic reaction) to
some perfume odors. My boss has an extreme sensitivity to certain
perfumes, which limits what kinds she can wear and what kind she can
tolerate from others nearby.
So I would say it's very much in the realm of possibility that this
person may be extremely sensitive to your girlfriend's perfume or some
chemical or natural ingredient in the odor.
