I have been seeing interesting local contracts announced by recruiters from anywhere but local. Is this for real, that there is a big de-localization of contract announcements going on?
I got two announcements yesterday from contracting agencies in Los Angeles and Portland (OR) respectively for jobs in Boston and NYC, and I got one this morning from a recruiter in Florida for a job in Boston (different than yesterday's job). Most were for short term contracts (up to 3 months) and all ask for me to send my resume in Word format. Two said they got my resume from Monster and one from Dice. (The last offer was also so far out in left field that it quickly fell victim to the Delete key.)

Although a Word version of my resume is on my online website, I don't send copies of my resume to recruiters until after I correspond with them. I used to work for a contracting services company that would collect resumes in hopes of getting a contract. There were no actual jobs....only potential interviews if they got the contract.

On the other hand, I'm due to start work in two weeks on a one year contract with a company in Vermont that I got through a company based in Western New York that saw my resume on Monster. (I did send them a Word copy after talking to them on the phone.) So, things do seem to be picking up and with Monster, Dice and other website, de-localization is probably the name of the game.
