My opinion used to be the same, but Wiley & Sons is really trying in their Technical Dummies books to be less informal and chatty with their content. That's my experience, since I'm writing a Dummies book right now. I think when IDG did the Dummies series they were more informal, but Wiley is trying to hit a fairly competent audience with their tech books now.
