Dick:

Your right. Ed Yourdon, James Robertson, the three
amigos (the guys who invented the UML), the entire
requirements engineering profession, and the heads of
all systems engineering departments at all the major
universities are all wrong: Using text is the way to
document a multidimensional system (of manual and
automated interacting procedures).

To quote Ed Yourdon: "Procedure is like dance: It
defies written description". What Yourdon means is
that, like a software system, dance is asynchronous
(multidimensional): Many potential
things happening at the same time, and often complex
branching. Using text to try and document dance is
attempting to use a one-dimensional tool to documen
multidimensional entity. To properly document her
ballet, the ballerina primarily needs diagrams.
