I think I've posted this before (but maybe not on this newsgroup)...

I've collected a number of options that you may use to extract images from Word. Some options are better than others, and YMMV (1b is not only the best option, it's also the coolest!).

1) Open the file in OpenOffice. From here you have two options.
a) Cut and paste the image into a graphics application.
b) Save the file as .sxw (native OpenOffice). Change suffix to .zip. Open the .zip file, and extract the desired image.

2) If it's a logo, there may be a copy avaialble on the web, either at a logo site, or their own web site.

3) Depending on how the image was placed, you may be able to double click to open it in another application (ie via OLE).

4) If on double click, OLE linking didn't work, and the image opens in Word's picture editor, from here scale up the image and do a cut and paste to another application.

5) Select the graphic in Word. Print selection to Distiller (at a high resolution). Import the postscript into CorelDraw or similar.

6) Convert document to PDF (with no down sampling). In Acrobat, crop and export to eps.

7) Convert document to pdf (with no down sampling). In Photoshop, select File > Import > PDF Image.

8) Save as HTML and hope it converts ok to to a web format (not recommended)

9) Scale/zoom in and do a screen dump (if you're really desperate)
